New- man with nasopharyngeal and gullet cancer

I have been living with nasopharyngeal cancer since 2007 with mets. I've had radio, multiple surgeries and most recently chemo. In September I was diagnosed with gullet cancer as a separate cancer. At the beginning of March, treatment was stopped and I wasn't given the best prognosis. I have been a member of the Macmillan site and have been advised to join here too. Billy

  • Hi Billy,

Welcome to this forum. It sounds like you've been through the mill a couple of times already. Never easy to hear that your treatment has stopped.

After chemo I was put on a "watch and wait" regime - if the Cancer (oesophageal) grows again the plan is to go back onto chemo. I'm already past the sell by date which I was given after a *** prognosis in Oct. 2013,

I look forward to chatting with you.

    All the best
    Dave

  • Hi Dave. Thanks for the welcome. Glad to hear your exceeding expectations. That doesn't seem right to type but I hope you know what I mean. I've been incurable since my original diagnosis in 2007 so I have done well. I suffer alot with swelling and pain in my face and neck and have facial disfigurement. Confidence being low I don't venture out other than for appointments. Hope you are well as can be. Billy

  • Hi Billy,

Thanks - unbelievably I am as well as I could ever have hoped for. I'm just about back to my formal fitness levels. This isn't something I take for granted, every day I half expect something to go wrong. I am trying to make the most of these unexpected months of feeling well, whilst not forgetting that I have a pretty big cancer sitting in my chest just waiting to start growing again.

I'm really sorry to hear about your loss of confidence and disfigurement, that must be a huge hurdle to get over. Are you receiving any help in trying to overcome that? People can be unwittingly cruel in their stares and comments, but mostly through a mixture of ignorance and embarrassment.

    Best wishes
    Dave
