Hello New to site and out of 5 year remission with RCC

I was diagnosed with renal cell carcinoma on my left kidney 5 years ago, and had a partial nephrectomy. I went for my usual CT scan and have just been told I now have it on my right kidney, and I'm due for surgery soon.

I'm told it's very rare to get it in both kidneys, so I'm to have genetic testing. I'm not sure how I feel about it all but I'm staying positive.

  • Hi there, welcome to the forum, but sorry for the reason you find yourself here. All of us here on this forum either have cancer ourselves, or are caring for a loved one with it. I know that getting diagnosed the first time is life altering and the second (or even third or fourth times) is almost just as shocking. It seems once we get our head around the first time, we kind of do what we have to do to get through it. The second time around kind of knocks the wind out of us yet again. I'm glad you're able to stay positive and I wish you all the best in this second surgery. Come back on to the forum and let us know how things go for you. People on here are very caring and supportive, so anytime you just want to vent or rant, or whatever, feel free. There is always someone that will eventually read your post and respond.

Take care and keep us up to date.

    Lorraine
