Hi Mark,
sorry i cannot help with your question but i would like to welcome you to the forum and wish you all the best with your treatment and sure there will be answers you want soon
Hi Mike, welcome to the forum, but sorry for the reason you're here.
I don't have any personal experience of the type of Cancer you have, but I know there's a regular contributor on the forum called Brian (woodworm) who has had prostrate Cancer and seems very knowledgable about treatments. I wonder if it's worth changing the title of your thread to include the word 'prostate' so that others with a similar diagnosis can find you more easily and share their experiences to support you.
Wishing you all the best with your treatments, Jo x
Hi, I got prostate cancer 18 months ago, had the operation then got told it was. Very aggressive and everyone was surprised and shocked in the hospital. They wanted me to have hormones and radiotherapy but I decided against it. It had insisted on going to Addenbrookes and had a de vinchi robot operation which was brillient. They also test for psa down to 0.02 which is much better than the 0.1 which is more normal. So far so good. After the operation I was 3ta like you. Hope this helps
Hi Mike,
Sorry I have not made contact before but have been very busy the last few days.
As Jo (Meekcat ) has said six and a half years ago I was diagnosed with prostate cancer. My psa was 70 and gleeson was 3+3=6 but luckily for me the cancer was still contained within the prostate. After two years of hormone therapy and 37 radiotherapy sessions, My psa dropped right down to 0.01. So take heart from my results Mike. Treatment has improved so much and is still improving. My psa is still only 0.87 and thats three and a half years after finnishing treatment.
Wishing you all the best with your treatment and please keep in contact, Brian.
Hi Mike,
I had 37 radiotherapy treatments and honestly I could have driven my self to the hospital quite easily. I didnt for the simple reason there is a bus service subsedised by the health trust that runs right to the hospital. I also had a bus pass anyway so it didnt cost me anything. I worked out that had I used my car, including the follow up trip to the hospital, I would have traveled a thousand miles.
The only thing is that towards the end of my treatment I did feel a little tired, which was the only real side effect I had. Hope this help and I wish you well with your treatment. Please let us know how you get on, Brian
Radio therapy all finished now, Brian was right and I did drive every day. I am experiencing some side / after effects but think some of these may be down to hormone treatment, it's Triptorelin and I was wondering if any one may have had this drug.
Hi Mike,
Thanks for the update and bet you are glad radiothearpy is finnished. I belive the hormone therapy you are having is injected as a liquid, is this right? I had never heard of it before. I have had several side effects from my hormone therapy (zoladex) but cant complain as it has given such good results in bringing my psa levels down. Hope all continues to go well, best wishes, Brian.
Hi Brian,
It comes in two parts that the doc mixes together before injecting into the glute.
It's slow release and I have it every 12 weeks.
I was warned of the side effects but didn't expect to get so many of them and so intense.
Fatigue, bone and muscle pain, hot flushes which at times seem to be never ending and intense, problems with concentration, nausia, dizziness, etc
I have an appointment with my consultant next week so I'm hoping that they can do something to alleviate these.
Triptorelin also goes by the name Decapeptyl.
I have spoken to a number of people and they all appear to be on Zoladex.
