Husbands new diagnosis

Hi,After nearly a year of doctors saying my husband was suffering depression and anxiety and completly ignoring half his symptons like mood swings, numbness in his left arm, severe headaches, lethargy and balance problems blamimg the depression and tablets he finally got an M.R.I scan.

The doctor came to our house the same night as having the scan to tell us they has found 2 brain tumours and a mass of area to the right of his brain they were unsure of. After 3 weeks of being in hospital and having tests and biopsies he has been diagnosed with b cell lymphoma, a blood cancer.

He Is now being moved to a hospital nearer to home for chemo and then radiotherapy. Just wondering If anyone knows much about this kind of cancer as the hospital are never seem to have time to really sit and explain things. they said its treatable but not curable.

If anyone can shed some light on things that would be great.

.Hi, my name is Miriam I was diagnosed with follicular lymphoma in 2012. As yet I have had no treatment as I am on what they call 'watch and wait' so when a lump appears they will treat me then.

Hopefully if all goes well and they can reduce these tumours in your husband he will then go on the 'watch and wait'.

I attend a support group once a month for people with lymphoma, this is a great help we have nurses and professes come and answer all our questions. If you go on the lymphoma web sight it will tell you where your local group is. Many of the members have had lymphoma for many years and are doing very well.

I have lumps in my neck and groin, the lymphoma is also in my bone marrow, I get tired very easily, so had to leave work. I am making the most of my life and doing lots of things I would not have done.

Wishing you and your husband well, and hope his treatment is successful. God bless. Miriam. X

  • Thank You for your reply Miriam.

I'm sorry to hear you have been diagnosed with follicular lymphoma. I have heard of the 'watch and wait' term before as my friend had read some different Info on lymphoma.

I will find out where our nearest support group Is held as even though we have amazing friends , I still feel scared for my Husband, Our future and our 2 lovely Children and alone In all this. It would be so nice to meet people and be able to ask questions, share our experiences.

I hope you don't mind me asking but did you get any help with benefits? No one has advised us of anything we can claim except ESA which Is useless so far. My husbands sick pay has ran out where he's been off poorly for months already and mis-diagnosed.

Its so good to hear from someone so positive and doing things they wouldn't have done before :)

People like you make me realise that we can be positive and fight this together.

    God Bless you too

I was entitled to sick pay for one year after I left work, but that has now stopped.

If you contact Macmillan cancer support they can send you a leaflet on any benefit you might be entitled too.

It's hard when you are coping with an illness and financial problems. So I hope you do find a way to get some help.

Take care any more help please let me know.

    Best wishes Miriam. X x

  • Thank You Miriam.

I will contact them straight away. Its such a worrying time.

    Kind Regards and Best wishes

  • Hi, just wondered how you are getting on. How is your husband doing.

I am off to my group today and looking forward to meeting the people who understand what I am going through. We have lots of different people come to the meeting so I find it very informative.

Hope to hear from you again.

    God bless Miriam x
