My father is 67 and up until mid September 2014 he was fit, healthy and very active. What started as some complaints with passing urine, rapidly progressed to bowel obstruction complaints. Several tests and procedures later he was diagnosed with an inoperable Sarcomatoid Carcinoma with origin most likely being the prostate. The tumour grew very quickly and has caused very complications including needing a catheter since October and then a Colostomy since early December.
December was a particularly bad month when the pain was a its worse alongside several bouts of fever and delirium caused by medication. He has had 5 doses of radiotherapy aimed at reducing pain and achieving some shrink of the tumour. This was 7 weeks ago. The aim is to start Chemotherapy if there is some improvement. His pain and general condition had improved over the last 3-4 weeks which made us all very positive, but recently the pain is again returning to what is was before alngside several other complications including lymphodema and blood clots.
Has anyone else come across this rare type of cancer,
Can anyone also advise regarding dealing with pain in the rectum area. The tumour is such that it pressure the rectum meaning my father can barely sit. He is mostly bed ridden because of pain and fatigue. The tumour also produces alot of smelly mucus which builds pressure in the rectum and causes sever pain. Does anyone have any advice on dealing with the mucus and pain.
Many thanks
