Hi, my name is Lisa, I have read some of the disscusions on this site & everyone seems so nice. My mum had bowel cancer 3 years ago & all has been good since completing her treatment. Drs have found something on her lung they say they are 93% sure it's cancer after undergoing a pet scan! they also said there is a spot on the top of each lung that illuminated just a little on the scan. She is going for a bronchoscope on Wednesday. I don't really know what I'm expecting anyone to say to me, I think I just needed to speak to someone. Xxx

    Hi Lisa, welcome to the forum. 

    Sorry to read about your mum's new situation. Hopefully, after Wednesday's bronchoscope, your mum's medical team will have a better idea of what's happening and be able to devise a treatment plan. 

    This waiting time is possibly one of the most difficult times to get through - a tendency for the mind to go into overdrive and thinking about the 'what ifs' etc. Try to keep yourself (and your mum) 'distracted' with other things. Sometimes easier said than done! 

    Speaking from personal experience, I had two lung nodules removed six weeks ago (secondary bowel) and I'm feeling pretty much back up to normal health. I had keyhole surgery - the nodules were in the top section of my right lung so the surgeon described them as ' in a good place' if you're going to have them. 

    I've also had PET scans which have shown hotspots, one of which, on removal and testing, was a nerve bundle so not cancerous :) 

    Sometimes these scans can illuminate areas that are not a problem, but this is why further tests are done.

    I hope your mum's investigation goes well on Wednesday and do post anytime if it helps to offload.

    Hi Lisa,

    When someone we love is diagnosed with cancer it is a very scary time and it can also make us feel quite alone. For so many of us find we cant talk to other family members of friends in an open and honest manner. I fact it is ofter far easier to talk to a complete stranger on this forum for often they know exactly how we are feeling

    You say you dont know what you are expecting people to saybut I think you will find people on here are very caring and will offer words of support. For dont forget, it is often the carers like you who are the forgotten victims of cancer for you need help and support just as your mother does. You are probably showing your mother a brave face but inwardly feeling the weight of the world on your shoulders.

    I have been a member of this forum for getting on for three years now and have found some wonderful people like Jo (Meerkat) on here who use their experiance of cancer to try and help others.

    Hi Jo, thank you so much for your reply. Seeing what uve experienced has brought some reassurance.  The waiting is so hard, I want the time to come to find out for sure what is happening, but then ignorance is bliss. I will keep you updated. Thanks again, Lisa xx
