Advanced kidney cancer

Was diagnosed in June and had keyhole surgery for nephrectomy and made a great recovery on a folow up CT scan it showed that one of the two lesions on my lung had grown from June and was now 1cm and in the other lung 0.8cm.I went to see the oncologist two days ago who said the options were

1 Just wait and do nothing now

2 Go to Christies in Manchester for High dose Interleukin treatment.

I am having a second opionion as I wanted a lobectomy and the consultant said it would not help if I had further  tumours on my right lung.

  • Hello Drawson,

Welcome to the Cancer Chat community. I'm sure that some of our regulars will be along in due course to offer their words of support and wisdom. They are a great bunch!

I just wondered if, whilst you are waiting for the appointment for a 2nd opinion, if it might be helpful for you to have a chat with one of our team of nurses. You can call them Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm free from a UK landline on 0808 800 4040.

    Sending you our best wishes,

  • Had a second opinion today and I  will be going on I think pazopanib starting on Friday  with the tablets.

  • Hi Drawson

nice to meet you and welcome. Good luck with the chemo - I am not familiar with that one - but lets hope it shrinks the cancers and deactivates them. Pazopanib sounds like an Ancient Warrier - lets hope it works like one!!! I would love to know where they get the names!! I am here as my wife had Rectal C and is now in remission - I am working in a supermarket.

I am sorry its been a bad year for you

Lets hope 2015 makes it okay again

    Steven

  • Thanks Stephen for your kind words Pazopanib (Votrient) seems to be the choice these days rather than Suninitab (Sutent) as the side effects are not as severe normally.

  • Hi       My 47 year old partner Brian has just finished his first 4 week course of Sutent & the side effects were not as bad as we expected-mouth ulcers & sensitive tongue. His appetite is great & he has put over a stone back on in weight since the nephrectomy in December.Due to start next course in 2 weeks so hoping all goes well again & he is looking to return to work as he feels well enough at the moment.
