I Had Cancer Now Its Back In Another Place

Hello to all

Well I will start this discussion again, it all started five years ago with a little lump on the side of my neck, I went to the Drs and she gave me some anti biotics to clear up what she first thought was an inflamation of my glands, well this went on for two weeks finally she sent me off for some tests the Dr that I saw was a really nice man, after doing his tests he sent me for a scan and found a large mass on the base of my tongue, the nodes in my neck were also infected.

Then i had the nodes taken away and six weeks of radiotherapy, well i have been going backwards and forwards to Gloucester Hospital since, last march i had an infection which turned into a severe cough, and phunemonia, since then i have never got over it and have had coughs and colds, well then just over two weeks ago i fell ill with a tummy bug and was rushed into hospital, there they did some test and a scan and told me that i had Cancer in my right lung also back in my neck as you can imagine it knocked me sideways,I really thought that I was free

I dont know if you can imagine the state that this news has left me in, and as with the last time my wife just will not talk to me, I dont blame her as i know she loves me as i do her but she has put up her protective barrier, what is on her side is how it was before and the reality does not get through, this keeps her safe and i would not have it any other way,but this does not help me I need to talk about it,perhaps this site will help as my moods are so black and it worries me.

  • Morning James

Like Max has said the waiting game can be a really torrid time especially when you just want to get on with fighting the cancer and start treatment so do come and 'vent' on the forum but  from previous experience 'nagging' on a daily basis could help to get those appointments through.  I am assuming the GP has given you more medication to stop any breakthrough pain to help keep you more comfortable so hope this is helping a little.  My hubby is very lucky with his GP as any queries are answered before he leaves the surgery to make sure he understands what everything is for (could be its because there are so many different pills to take) but the main reason he had for antibiotics  being issued was for possible infection (with the immune system being less efficient).  Please chat to your doctor and ask him to explain why you are taking what you have been given (or maybe your pharmacist can help as ours also explains fully when we collect the medication) as its one less thing to worry about.  Do hope you will have news soon.  Jules x

  • Hi Max

Hope James won't mind me pinching his thread to let you know I am thinking of you and whilst I am sure the thought of more surgery has its risks, you go get rid of that tumour and hope that have a break in the chemo continues to mean you feel wonderful and can enjoy the festivities with your family.  You are one helluva lady - give you a break and you start decorating.  Wonderful that you feel normal but decorating.  Really get some pampering too.  You may not yet have your op date but can see you are making the most of your free time and just in case we do  not chat before wishing you a very successful surgery.  Virtual hugs. Jules x

  • Awww thanks Jules. Just want it out now, daft but somehow makes me feel better to know it's gone.

Ha ha - the kitchen is all nice and light now (we have just had some work done in there). Had a carport built too so I will be outside staining next!!!!!!!   If I carry on feeling like this I will be down the street and do everybody's fences on the way hahaha!  Having a me day today - lunching with my five besties from where I worked - lots of gossip to catch up on and lots of giggles. Hope you and Hubby have a good weekend honey, keep smiling and you know we are here xxxxx

  • Hello Max

My problems seem so small compared to yours, you seem so strong and stoic in your out look i will keep on to my team and hopefully get my operation before Christmas but the way it is going it will either be very close to Christmas or well afterwards, I do hope they get a move on.

  • Hi James .... Good to hear from you and glad that you are chasing the hospital for info. Seems like you and me both will be in hospital before Xmas, but like you, I am still awaiting a date. It is sooooo frustrating so I know how you feel. Im just trying to get everything for Xmas organised so I can rest after the op without thinking about cards and pressies etc. Xmas decorations can be given a miss this year I have decided. Please let me know when you get some news and I will let you know when I do too.  Have a peaceful weekend xxxxx

  • Hello Max

I must tell you my news I have had a late phone call from the hospital the person at the hospital said that they are not certain that the cancer on my lung is the primary cancer, they think that the cancer that i had before has recurred and gone down to my lung, but if the cancer on my lung is the primary cancer then they are going to operate, there is now two chest surgeons haggeling over my lung, they have brought in a third surgeon to look over my notes to see what he thinks and this is why they are taking so long, in the mean time they have given me two anti biotics to try to sooth my chest and keep the pain under control.

                                    kind regards james

P,S yes it does seem that we will both be in hospital around christmas  xx

  • So glad you had a phone call James ...... they are on the case which is great and it sounds as if they are being very thorough in thinking about your treatment. All good positive news. Be in touch soon my friend, let me know if you hear anymore next week x

  • Hi James

Was pleased to read in your post to Max that you had received an update from the hospital and so hope it will not be too much longer before your treatment plan is in place and you feel like you are getting somewhere.  Its great that your wife keeps a check on the meds. I usually have to remind my hubby to pack his pills whenever we are going out.  He has slow release 'cocktail' every 12 hours.  When we are away at Christmas think we will have an overnighter just for the boxes but the good thing is they keep him pain free and he has no trouble sleeping.  Take care of yourself.  Regards Jules x

  • Hello Jules

Thank you very much for your words of support, I too have a lot of 12Hour release drugs and have too take the pain relief too help but at the moment the pain relief is not quite letting me have an undisturbed nights sleep i have to get up at about five in the morning to have a top up of oramorph, that new Anti Biotic that the Hospital has perscribed makes me feel really strange when i take it but from what they say that is normal, the only thing that is not helping with my dark days is the waiting and untill this third specialist has had his look over my notes and scans then i dont know what is happening, how is your Hubby feeling not too bad i hope I am so pleased to hear that you are like my wife and look after the med`s as i know my self if my wife did not do mine at times due to the cocktail then i forget what i have had.

                                love  James xx
