Adenocarcinoma of the Duodenum

Hi everyone

Just trying to find out if anyone else has this type of cancer which I know is quite rare. I was diagnosed with duodenal cancer (adenocarcinoma) 3 months ago.  It was a long time before they found out what was wrong.  Had blockage and eventually had a bypass operation.  Also have metases on liver.

They started me off with Oxaliplatin and capecitabine chemo.  After a recent scan this was found to be unsuccessful.

Oncologist is now proposing Irinotecan with fluorouracil (5FU) with folinic acid.   Doctor says it may increase my life by 4 months.   I have the difficult decision now as to whether to go ahead.

Is anyone on this type of treatment?  I would be interested to hear how they are doing.

Also would be interested to hear from anyone with the same type of cancer and hear what chemo they are on and whether it is working.

Thank you to anybody for their contribution.

  • Hello Charlie,

Welcome to Cancer Chat! I hope others with duodenal cancer will see your post and respond soon. I also thought I would do a search on our forum for recent posts from people like you who have been diagnosed with duodenal cancer. Feel free to reply to their threads as I am sure they are also looking to get in touch with someone who has the same type of cancer.

There was, for example, this message from mumto5 posted in January which you can read here and I am sure she would be very happy to discuss chemotherapy with you. Another thread discussing duodenal cancer can be found here. Don't feel shy, just hit the reply button and hopefully they will see your response to their messages.

I hope this helps and that you can soon get in touch with others here with duodenal cancer and talk about your treatments.

Best wishes and best of luck for your difficult treatment decisions,
