Waiting for hospital appointment

Hi,

I went to the doctors on 15/10 with a dry throat and 2 lumps on my anus. Have since seen consultant with lumps - he examined me - said they were haemorrhoids and couldn’t find any internal lumps but has referred me for a camera to be sure. With my throat, the dr saw a white patch on my tonsil. Sent off a swab which was normal so booked another drs appointment. She was unable to examine fully due to my string gag reflex and phobia of choking, so referred me on 2 week cancer pathway to ENT and I have a consultation on 13/11. I have looked online and am convinced I have tonsil cancer and am so anxious I’m not eating or sleeping properly. I don’t want my husband to know how worried I am but while he is at work I worry all day (I’m retired now) even when I’m with other people. Would be grateful for any thoughts on managing the wait better.

  • Hi Marieangela,

A very warm welcome to the forum.

Unfortunately, the way you are feeling is perfectly normal when you don't know what you are dealing with. It is reassuring that nothing untoward has been found so far. Managing this wait is always difficult and frustrating, but it is important that nothing is missed or misdiagnosed. Try to keep busy, whether catching up on jobs, going out to meet up with friends, doing a jigsaw - anything to take your mind off the wait. There are also people here who are all too familiar with how you are feeling and I'm sure that they would be happy to chat to you in the meantime. If it's of any consolation to you, things become easier once you have a definite diagnosis, irrespective of the outcome.

I sincerely hope that all turns out well for you on 13th and that the camera doesn't find anything. Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
