Husband Diagnosed with CUP

Hello I'm Karen and my husband was told this week tgat he has cancer from an unknown source. It's been found in his stomach, liver and lungs! Waiting for a liver biopsy to establish where the primary tumour is/was. The earliest biopsy date is 2nd Nov....seems like forever away.

  • Hello Karen and a very warm welcome to our forum,

What a shock it must have been for you and your husband to receive this diagnosis and to find out that it was in his stomach, liver and lungs. It must be hard to still be in the dark as to where the cancer originated. We have a section on our website which is dedicated to cancer of Unknown Primary (CUP) and I hope that you will get further details soon once you have had the results from the liver biopsy. It won't be too long now until the biopsy date but I can imagine it does feel like forever away and there's nothing harder than being in this state of limbo, waiting and waiting for answers that take a long time to come. While you are having to wait, I thought I would share with you our helpful tips on how to cope while waiting for important news.

We also have a free nurse helpline you can ring at any stage on 0808 800 4040 - it is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm so if you have any questions or if there's anything you want to talk through don't hesitate to get in touch with them.

I hope that you will hear from others who have been in a similar place before and that they will pop by and share their story with you. It helps sometimes just to talk to someone else who understands what you and your husband are going through at the moment.

Best wishes to you and your husband during this anxious time,
