Rare cancer: I have malignant melanoma vulva cancer

Hello all , new to all this so am sorry if title is wrong!!

The last 18mths ive been going through a rare cancer diagnosis doing it alone . I have malignant melanoma vulva cancer , and was wondering if any other females have or going through the same ?

Currently just started using Imiquimod cream and as a whole wondering how bad it can get with pain and general skin breakfown.

Had a big meltdown and am only week one into 6week course

In a lot of discomfort even doing basic things . .

Any advice on how to cope with being able to continue to work , coping with pain and mentally staying strong?

Thank you

  • Hi Jensa and a warm welcome to our forum,

This is indeed a rare cancer and not one I have come across often and I can imagine it must be hard for you to have to navigate it all alone. There is information on our website on vulval melanoma which I hope you will find useful and if you ever wanted to talk to our cancer nurses about it or ask them any questions, they have a helpline you can ring on this free number 0808 800 4040 it is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm.

I am sorry to hear that the treatment is giving you a lot of discomfort and that is preventing you from doing basic things. It might helpful to read our section on coping with vulval cancer and I would also get in touch with your medical team and explain that you are in a lot of pain and I am sure they will be able to give you some good suggestions so that you can feel better both mentally and physically and continue to work or carry out basic tasks.

I hope that you will hear from the experiences of other members who have had vulval melanoma and I thought I would mention  's vulval melanoma diagnosis thread from last year which you are welcome to respond to or  's vulva melanoma thread. These are just a couple of examples and there are many more so I hope that you will get to connect with others here who are or have been in the same boat.

Hopefully things will improve and I hope that you will manage to talk to a doctor about this pain and discomfort.

    Best wishes,
