  • Hi Lisa and a warm welcome to Cancer Chat,

I am so sorry that you have been diagnosed with a grade 4 brain tumour and it must have been a bit of a shock to you. I hope you are recovering well from the surgery and I wanted to wish you the best of luck for your radiotherapy and chemotherapy treatment which is starting in just three days. You might be interested in reading the information we have on our website on radiotherapy for brain tumours and on chemotherapy for brain tumours and if there is any aspect of your treatment or anything you would like to discuss, we have a nurse helpline that can help which you can call for free on 0808 800 4040 - it is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm.

Poor you it must be so hard to have to think about your treatment and your diagnosis and it's normal to worry about your children and wanting to make sure they are ok and planning for their future whatever happens. As the father has not been around, I can understand why you would want your 27 year old to be the legal guardian of the younger ones and it's a good idea to seek legal advice on this. It might be worth getting in touch with The Brain Tumour Charity who have a support and information line and they might be able to point you in the right direction. I also found this page on their website on writing a will and making legal arrangements particularly for anyone who has children under 18. I would also suggest you get in touch with your local Citizens Advice - they have information on their website for example on how to make a will  and you can often just drop in to discuss your situation or give them a call.

I hope this helps a little and that you will hear from other members of our community who have been in your position before and they might be able to offer you further insights based on their personal experiences.

Best of luck for the start of your treatment on the 28th and we are always here for you anytime you need to talk.

    Best wishes,
