Newly diagnosed

Hello peeps

2 weeks ago i had biopsies taken and yesterday got the results - I have breast cancer. My head is a mess and i'm scared. I'm told it has been caught early and is easily treatable. Surgery to remove the 'small' lump, remove lymph nodes and then radiotherapy. But my mind says but if its in the lymph nodes, doesnt that mean its spread? Apparently, no it doesnt, there are many factors to take into consideration, and i'll just have to be patient and wait for my appt with the experts/consultants who can tell me whats what.

I know i should be grateful that it isnt worse, but tbh, i am feeling pretty *** and sorry for myself, because i also have MS, permanently in a wheelchair, and if that wasnt enough, i also have a gallstone stuck down a bile duct which is causing a huge amount of discomfort. I wish i could fast forward 6 months, and all this could be over. Anyway, hello xx

  • Hi Cg163,

It sounds as if you already have a lot going on health wise and I am so sorry to hear of this latest diagnosis. This is a worrying time, but you will get through it. It is reassuring that you have caught this early and that it's treatable. There is nothing to say that the cancer has spread. It is routine procedure to remove some lymph nodes at the same time as removing the 'small lump'. These are sent away to be checked after they are removed and this will determine whether or not there is any spread to your lymph nodes.

I was in the same position as you 16 years ago and was terrified, as I had previously lost my mum to secondary breast cancer. I had a lumpectomy, but developed a second cancer in the same breast less than a year later. I then had a double mastectomy, followed by 6½ years of hormone therapy. Since then, I manage to keep busy and still live a fulfilling life. I feel for you with your gallstone - I had a 3½ stone removed 28 years ago, but I still remember the pain! Are you going to have surgery to remove this?

We nearly all find ourselves in an emotional mess at this stage, but it does become easier to deal with, as we discover more about our cancer.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you are getting on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
