Awaiting breast biopsy results

Hello,

I was referred to breast clinic and had an ultrasound which identified a 1cm-ish lump, I also had two biopsies. Ultrasound and consultant were both confident it was fibroadenoma and was given a leaflet and told to expect results via phone call in 5 to 6 weeks. I've just an email come through for a follow-up face to face in three weeks - no context. Called the hospital and they said it's to get my results. I'm reassuring myself that they wouldn't wait three weeks to tell me it's anything sinister but still can't help feeling panicked that they said it would be a phone call in 5 weeks. Did the same happen to anyone else? If it was to retest wouldn't they just send me another breast clinic letter telling me not to wear deodorant etc? This appointment also says breast surgery service where the original letter said breast clinic but then it did say breast surgery service at the very top in small letter. Is this standard practice for a face to face to tell me it's nothing? Thanks in advance x

  • Hi Hugodarling,

A very warm welcome to the forum.

Most consultants prefer to give results in person, irrespective of the outcome. In some busy hospitals, this is not always possible, which is probably why you were told that you would get them via phone. There could be a number of different reasons for this change. It is possible that someone has cancelled or changed an appointment which has left this slot available for you. As our moderator Ben has said, " a face-to-face appointment is good in terms of giving you you an opportunity to better ask questions and talk things through".Don't let the different terminology upset you, the two titles in your letter, tend to be fairly synonymous.

I do hope that all turns out well for you. Please keep in touch and let us know how your appointment goes. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,
