CHOROIDAL MELANOMA

Hi everyone, my husband has been diagnosed with a large choroidal melanoma / eye cancer in his right eye and has to get his eye removed this Friday. We are very worried and wanted to post on here to see if anyone is going through or has gone through anything similar and can give us advice. We have had no scans to check if the cancer has spread and have been given no contact information for support such as nurses etc. If anyone could reply it would be greatly appreciated.

  • Welcome to Cancer Chat Jackrussellover,

I'm very sorry to hear about you husband's diagnosis.

I'm sure this news has been a big adjustment for you both and naturally you'd be worried about the future, but this forum is always here if you need support.

Only you know how your feeling, so talking through this and any concerns you have may help. I'd encourage you to speak to the medical team and ask for the things you want, like contact information and other advice in case they know of other support available to you. It might help to write down any questions you have and take them with you on Friday.

There is also information that we can provide. We have guidance around eye cancer, including the different types, treatment and ways of coping. We also have a free helpline where you can talk to an experienced cancer nurse over the phone, you can call on 0808 800 4040 and lines open from 9 to 5 Monday to Friday. There is also some advice for family, friends and carers affected by cancer, which offers information on how to look after your wellbeing during difficult times.

I hope this is useful for you both in some way and do let us know how it goes on Friday.
