Basel Cell Carcinoma on my cheek

Hello,

My name is Marishka.  I have just been told by my Doctor that I have BCC on my cheek.  He said that it may get bigger.  He also said that it was benign.

I have recently learned that BCC is not benign.  I am concerned about how long it would take for me to be seen by the hospital.  The hospital site for the Dermatologist says approximately 12 weeks, however, other people have said that it could be over a year.

I would consider going private depending on the fees.  I have no idea of where to look, who is good and who isn't.  Would be happy if some people could point me in the right direction.  I know that people are not allowed to give names and addresses.  But if someone could DM me that would be much appreciated.

  • Hello Marishka

If you have a BCC it needs to be surgically removed, fortunately BCC are usually slow growing. You could get an appointment to see a dermatologist within a few weeks but the wait for surgery is currently 9 months at our NHS trust so you could be waiting up to a year. If you can afford to, getting it removed privately is a good choice. You can get an estimate from hospitals clinics close to you, the cost depends on what area you live and how complex the BCC is to remove. Consultants charge is around £280 then surgery £800 to £1000 much more if a skin graft is needed then follow up visits to check on the healing process. Ive had BCCs and SCCs removed from my face, scalp, back and chest. The quicker they are removed the better the outcome both surgically and cosmetically.
