Stressed out - lost my mum to bowel cancer two years ago and now my husband is waiting for a colonoscopy

Hi I’m just a bit stressed out

I lost my mum to bowel cancer two years ago she was only 65 it was hard for us all as a family to watch her struggle from diagnosis to a year and half going through treatments stoma bag loss of her lovely hair etc to then losing her and now I’m stressing about losing my husband because he did a at home test and is now waiting for a colonoscopy

so I’m just overthinking about it and panicking as I was so strong caring for my mum and family but if we’re going to get bad news about my husband I don’t think I will be able to be as strong

it’s so horrible the waiting and not knowing what is going to happen

I really do hope it’s just me overthinking things we will just have to wait for the appointment and the instructions about the colonoscopy and then wait for the results fingers crossed everything goes well I have been with my husband since I was 17 47 now and would be lost without him

  • Hello Fionah

I'm so sorry to hear that you lost your Mum to bowel cancer 2 years ago. It sounds like it was an incredibly difficult time for you, and so it's perfectly understandable that you're feeling stressed and anxious ahead of your husband's colonoscopy.

For many people, this period of waiting and uncertainty can be very difficult. Try to keep in mind that there can be many reasons for a raised FIT test result other than cancer. Hopefully, when your husband goes for his appointment, the team will be able to give you both some reassurance on the day.

In the meantime, if it would help to chat things through with one of our team of nurses, you're welcome to give them a call. I know they will be happy to listen and offer any advice, information and support they can. They're available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

Keep in touch Fionah and let us know how he gets on. We're here for you.

    Best wishes,
