New joiner - just been diagnosed with bowel cancer

Hello, I m 54 and female.

I have recently been diagnosed with bowel cancer just over a week ago, and now waiting for my CT scan to check for secondary and I am completely and utterly panic stricken ...this has totally knocked me sideways,

  • Hi must be difficult times for you. You may be questioning yourself why why why. As humans we think some things cant happen to us but they do. Must admit worst thing was waiting for CT scan results and lab results after surgery. Been diagnosed with BC in March26 myself just before 50 birthday.Had almost no one to help me be there for me from diagnosis till now. U have to trust Dr's and treatment.

Have to adjust to new way of life where u will see how people will react to your diagnose. I was really bad emotionaly after surgery and tried to ring help support etc but always felt like people on other side do listen but they just tell u what they thing u want to be told. It may be a big emotional shock but hope u have nice people family around you to help you get through this.Curently on preventative chemo treatment with almost no side effects. Be strong and I we are here to talk if u feel low or need help.Adam

    • Thank you for your reply, I have a very small family, my oatents and daughter, the worst is my dad has just been recently diagnosed too thats the onmy reason i did the fit test....i had my ct scan yesterday and just broke down I tears most of the day as it felt incredibly overwhelming ..like there's no goung back now, which is a silly thought as there wasn't anyway, I m beyond petrified if it has gone anywhere else, I m acting all "I m ok" on the outside for my loved one but inside I m a total wreck,.

I m sorry to here about your diagnosis too, was it contained ?  can't explain the feeling can you, like your in this bubble that no one gets ? ..I haven't told many people as I want to know where I am upto first, it's that word isn't it ..saying the words, its like you want toknow and you don't... just waiting on the MDT meeting now,my insides are shaking.

You sound as though you are coping well with everything ? Do you have family? ...any advice on how to cope with the lack of control I m feeling, ?

    Again thank you for replying.

    1. I live on my own. Ex divorced me last year and mived out from my house like 3 weeks before i had surgery.Got two kids 14 and 9 year old with Down syndrome. But she is fine as is older.Im.Slovakian living here 21 years so no family etc around me. Every day even these days i feel kinda depressed as I feel lonely and that is the only problem that is killing me  at the moment. Knowing that I may not meet another soul to share life is not what i imagine because of diagnose. So yeah its one man mission.Apparently stage 2-3.From 17 cysts only one had some cancer cells in it it was close to 3cm tumor i had inside bowel but from other side.Cant help with emotions as they were overhelming.I struggled badly for weeks.I was emotional wreck where u u feel rrally low.People dont want to know or assuring u u will be fine etc.But after first chemo session everything changed in me over the night. Next day i was new person  i felt energy all worried bad emotions were gone.Dunno what happened but must be fear of unknown that leads towards chemo. My friend whos is undergoing still treatment said u will loose hair taste you wil lbe knackered etc.Nothing so far and next week going for 5th treatment.Yes its hard to thing about kids about their future.U must believe in modern medicine.Do as Dr says.Be positive.Another thing is money for bills etc for a min 6 months during treatment unless u lucky to have a good employer like me.I would not hold it inside that u have been diagnosed. It may help u do release pressure u hold inside but some people reactiins may be different than u would expect.Like I said waiting  for result and meeting is the worst part of the process as time is dragging and it feels like enternity and u see everything negative.Im here for u to support u if u need to talk as I know its hard  emotionaly.
