Barrett’s oesophagus

Hi everyone   I’m new to the group and new to BE.
I have had low iron deficiency for years and never really found a cause. I had a gastroscopy and colonoscopy about 9 years ago and nothing was seen. Recently changed GP and they were concerned that nothing had been done since.
Procedure repeated about 5 weeks ago and I’ve been diagnosed with BE, I have a 3mm hiatus hernia and diverticulosis. I’ve not heard anything since, I’ve not started any medication. I’m feeling very anxious. My dad passed away with oesophageal and stomach cancer. Is there anything I should be doing?

Sorry for the long post
TIA

  • Hi to you Branny.

For the last 4 years I have had annual lung health checks as per invite due to age. The first CT showed a small nodgel in my lung but no need for further tests other than 12 months time.

This May I had annual CT and within 2 days I was called and booked in to see respiritory consultant. They were concerned about the enlargement of the nodgel and it's character. Within 3 days I had PET CT scan which then indicated not only the lung issue but signs within the colon that needed investigation.

My local hospital then refered me to hospital.

The consultant advised I needed urgent RATS surgury to perform a lower right lobectomy. This was carried out 3 weeks later.

During my 3 weeks wait for surgury i had colonoscooy and endoscopy which confirmed Barretts and diverticulitis. For the Barratts I have been put on 40mg omeprozal to reduce the reflux. This keeps the Barretts medically controlled but endoscopy re tests will be carried our every 3 to 5 years. It seems as though this is a slow moving medical condition. For the diverticulitis the GP can prescribe antibiotics if I get fkare ups. Life changes re diet can help too. Again I think this condition is long term observation .

I'm 2 months post lobectomy now and hoping nothing else comes up.

Wish you well with your conditions and future. All the best.
