  • Hi Izzy1020,

A very warm welcome to the forum.

I am sorry to hear that you lost your nan to this disease. I also lost my mum to secondary breast cancer following a 12 year battle with the disease, so know just how awful this wait is. Concerning the breast lump, are you aware that not all breast lumps are cancerous? Only 20% of those referred to the breast clinic will get a cancer diagnosis. Other causes include benign cysts, Fibroadenoma, Fibrotic changes, etc.

Most of us would agree that this is one of the worst parts of our cancer journey, as there are so many "uknowns" and our over active imaginations tend to lead us to all sorts of dark places. It would be unusual for someone of your age to have cancer, although sadly, not impossible. Try to stay away from Google until you know what you are dealing with. Many of the posts are poorly researched, out of date and aimed at the more spectacular cases. This won't give you any answers and will only serve to increase your anxiety. Also, try to keep yourself busy while you wait for your appointment. This doesn't have to be with work - any pastime which helps to take your mind off  things will help.

I sincerely hope that all turns out well for you. Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
