Asbestos worry - Amosite

We moved into our house two years ago and have just discovered that the cellar (you can only access it from outside) has amosite boards on the ceiling.

when we got the keys we found a hobby horse toy in there and let our little boy (he was only 2) play with it as he loves horses. He was in the house with it and while it wasn’t played with a lot it was in our sitting room for two months.

I am completely freaking out about his health. I can’t cope with the guilt that we have unknowingly exposed him.

the board in the cellar is generally in very good condition but at some point a hole has been accidentally made before we got the keys. The survey took photos of the cellar and you can see the hole and that it has not changed. There were no traces of any loose breakage when we moved in so had obviously been cleared away.

what do I do and how do I stop worrying. We are getting it removed professionally and no one is going back in the cellar.

  • Welcome to the forum NJ1, although I'm really sorry for the stress and worry this situation is causing.

I hope this information I've found on what to do if you think you've been exposed to asbestos will help but if you're worried about your son, there's no harm in booking an appointment with your GP to get him looked over. They will also be able to address your concerns about this and give you the reassurance you are seeking at this time.

Our members know how difficult managing anxiety and tackling worries can be so you are not alone NJ1, and hopefully you will receive some support and advice from our community soon.

If you use the 'search forum' option at the top of this page, you'll see there have been many posts about asbestos before so you're welcome to reach out to others on these discussions as well for more support and advice.

    Kind regards,
