CLog (part 7):
Mountains for the Mind, but first a brief update re. my treatment… in brief, I was on the floor, literally. Friday gone was the end of my 5th week and all of the side effects kicked in, I’ll not got into detail.
So, it’s dig deep time, 2 Radio sessions and no more Chemo, and that will be it, done! Then it’s rebuild time… back to the gym on Monday.
Mountains for the Mind, a campaign from Trail magazine promoting the benefits of being outside. “We believe in the power of the mountains to change lives and improve mental health – and we need your help to spread the word”. They believed in the power of the mountains, a heart warming section relaying peoples stories about why they take to the hills and mountains, and the fact is, it works!
I can completely relate to the idea of Mountains helping your Mind, I don’t need to be sold on this one, I’m in… hook, line and sinker. Over the last 15 years or so, I’ve been on countless walks, many of these being in the Lake District, why… because it’s there.
Normally there’s a group of us, the Bimbleers, but I have been on my own, in all weather conditions and when I go alone, it’s sometimes been because I’ve needed to…the reasons vary, often stress, under too much pressure at work and occasionally, health!
Walking into the mountains and switching off is life changing, it clears your mind, the clear air, choose carefully and you sometimes don’t see anybody, in my view your mind has the opportunity to have a complete ‘clear out’ a ‘reset’ and of course it helps you generally with your fitness.
I don’t advocate going if you are inexperienced, or if you haven’t got the correct equipment, if you have these and if you need to switch off from the monotony of everyday life, or to recharge your batteries… just go, or give me a shout, I’ll go with you!

Tracks from my Years. My fav’ musical… Les Mis’, my fav’ version… the 10th Anniversary from the Royal Albert Hall, with a cast riddled with stunning voices, but for me, Lea Salonga singing ‘On my Own’… just stands out, enjoy!
