Glioblastoma type 4 -Gotta and am taking it on- if I can, you can too!-

Hi all- well how the wheel turns…

intro coming… I’m a big standard 61 year old fella-Looked after myself, regular exerciser, badders player ,keen biker, never smoked ever… Then on 2nd Feb this year, collapsed at work- 2 full seizures -whipped to Hosp then diagnosed on 5th via MRI with a primary type 4 Glioblastoma-right parietal lobe-‘BOOM’!!

Never had a single symptom- in the run up- deffo out of the blue.

Suddenly, yes, you too are mortal- always been an Atheist- so if I seem “glib” well life’s like that- you’ve got to look at it square on,(imho) the ol’ Universe really doesn’t care, so hold tight for as long as it lasts…as best you can do- give love where you can, be grateful if you receive it- and if you need to, take the odd private moment to have a damn good rage too.

And Guys- it is ok to have a bit of a snivel now and then- just a bit of relief; it does help.

No matter how dark, or grim it seems, yes, there will be someone worse off!

I’m taking the positive with my type- ( how’s yours?)  as it’s a primary, I will not be passing it to my Daughter or Granddaughter- take every victory you can.

Just have to say the NHS were amazing- I was in by the 27th of Feb- de bulked as much as possible, and follow up 6 weeks Radiology + Chemo at a different hosp (13th April-26th May) has been equally good- MASSIVE thank you all around. So far so good- just one seizure 2 weeks ago, as the Oncology Doc said- to be expected as  things calm down.

I don’t have the magic bullet- or the “ Answer”  but keep on keeping on, simple, plain and direct, is all I can offer; yes statistically my “ lodger” will likely get me in the end- but I’m going to make the most of what time I’ve got- you can too.

  • Welcome to Cancer Chat, FunnyBunny64 and thank you so much for introducing yourself in such an open and generous way.

I’m sorry to hear about your diagnosis, especially coming so suddenly and out of the blue the way it did, with no warning signs beforehand.

What comes through very clearly in your post is your spirit and your determination to face things head on, and I think that will mean a great deal to others on here who are going through something similar and may be finding it harder to feel that way right now. It sounds like you have also been well supported by the NHS throughout and it is good to hear that.

If you ever have questions you would like to put to our cancer nurses you are welcome to ring their free helpline on 0808 800 4040, open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm.

I do hope some of our members who have been through a similar experience will come along shortly to say hello and share their own stories with you.

    All the best,

    Renata, Cancer Chat Moderator
