Mammogram recall

I have been told that there is "something'" in my right breast and been recalled following my 3 year mammogram.

I am 61

I am so worried and scared.

  • Hi there,

There’s no point telling you not to worry because it is worrying when you receive a recall following a mammogram.  I, too, was recalled this month following my 3 year mammogram& was really worried & scared as it’s never happened before in any of my previous ones (& I’ve had 5 previous 3 yearly ones).

At my recall appointment I had an examination, another mammogram, an ultrasound & a consultation & my outcome was no cancer or concerns just a ‘spot’ (normal spot/zit that you can get anywhere on your body) that showed up on the mammogram as a change from my previous mammogram 3 years before.  I got this result on the same day as the recall assessment - no waiting.

The relief was instant & I could then look back & marvel at the mammogram equipment that had picked up this small change to warrant my recall in the knowledge that had it been something more sinister it must be a recent change as I had no other symptoms (lumps, dimpled skin or any other changes that I’d noticed).

The stats show that 3 out of every 4 recalls do not receive a cancer diagnosis & you’ve done your bit by attending your mammogram appointment.

I, too  had “something” on my right breast- a spot - so I will say what I know won’t stop you doing it but don’t worry, I’m sure you will be fine.

Let us know how you get on.  There will always be someone on this forum who understands how you’re feeling because they will have also gone through the same emotions as you.

    Take care xx

  • Thank you. I am trying to keep crazy busy and counting days until Tuesday. Not long really but waver between positive thinking and terror. But it so helps to know I am not alone. Thank you.

  • Good luck on Tuesday- let us know how you get on

    xx
