Hi- just wanted to add a bit of positivity to anyone who has been recalled following a mammogram. Having had 6 previous 3 yearly interval mammograms this was the first time I was recalled. I was in a terrible panic- convinced it was something serious. The time leading up to the appointment I was a mess- couldn’t concentrate or think of anything else. I read all the stats which looked to be in my favour (3 out of 4 recalled will not get a cancer diagnosis) but I was still a mess. The tests took about 3 hours altogether (including the waiting between consultation, further mammogram & ultrasound testing) & it turned out that my recall was due to ……..a spot (zit) on my right breast that I’d not even noticed it was so small! So got the all clear & my life back! In one way I can look back & marvel that the sensitive equipment could detect such a small & minor change from my previous mammogram 3 years earlier. Telling people not to worry is pointless if you’re a worrier (like me) but reading comments from others who have come out the other side may provide some respite & a bit of positivity at a terribly worrying time. I hope that this comment may have helped to do that.
