Enlarged spleen,urgent haematology referral

Good Afternoon

I've just come across this site.Which is Brilliant and so supportive I have to say.

Back in March I had awful pain in my chest, shoulder blades and tummy.

So I went to a+e.

I ended up having a CT scan and a small gallstone was discovered.

A few days later I had a letter from the a+e department asking me to book an ultrasound scan for a more detailed look.

That only happened in May as I waited a long time for the appointment.

The Dr phoned me shortly afterwards to say they'd found lots of little gallstones but they were more concerned that I have an enlarged spleen.

The Dr explained He had referred me for an urgent haematology appointment due to suspected cancer.

Naturally this was a massive shock to me!

I've since had a full blood count and my haematocrit was low,so I need my ferritin levels checked now.

Also,I have an extremely distended belly that makes me look 9 months pregnant (had this for several months) Dr's don't seem to be giving me any answers about that.

Anyway,my haematology appointment is on the 3rd July,so Until then I'll just be on pins waiting.

If you've read ALL this then Thankyou.

It's nice to get off my chest.

Best wishes to you all

  • Hello Marie.B,

I can see this has been a shock and you may have worries about what may come but I hope posting on the forum has helped in some way. To help you feel prepared you can read about your urgent referral explained on our website and advice around coping with waiting for news, which I hope will be useful. When youre worried that you may have cancer, it can be natural to think the worst sometimes, but this can end up increasing anxiety rather than making you feel better and it's so important right now to look after your wellbeing.

All the best and let us know how things go in July,
