Breast cancer - is anyone having treatment at the moment? I'm due to start radiotherapy soon

Wanting to connect with people going down the cancer and treatment route

I've had surgery on 22nd April to remove the cancer, they also had to remove sentinel node

I had an appointment this week for the results, the cancer had spread to the lymph nodes and 11 nodes were removed

I got lymphoedema and the swelling was huge under my arm

They didn't want to drain it as they said it was an infection risk but a couple of days ago it burst and has been constantly leaking through my scar, I was terrified and rang my macmillan nurse, she said to keep the area clean and redress it

I have to have radiotherapy and when I go back on 26th I will find out when it starts

I want to let everyone know on here we are strong and together we can prop each other up

  • Hi TinaFred,

I am sorry to hear that you have cancer and that it has spread to the lymph nodes. Do you feel any more comfortable, now that your seroma has burst? I had this problem after I had a double mastectomy and found that I was very uncomfortable when the swelling built up. The doctors are always reluctant to drain these, as it can lead to infection. In my case, they had to be drained 4 times before they settled.

Do you know what type of breast cancer you have, or what stage it is? They have to leave things to heal after surgery, before you can start radiotherapy. I sincerely hope that it all goes well for you.

As you know, we are always here for you. You have hit the nail head, when you say that we can prop each other up. This is the very ethos of this site and I'm sure that you'll find it a great support as you travel your cancer journey. We never know how strong we are, until our backs are up against the wall. You will soon find hidden strengths that you never knew you had.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
