Sarcoma / Doxorubicin

Hi

I'm JJ and I'm 35 and had a previous diagnosis of liposarcoma in my leg the end of 2024. I have recently received news that my cancer has spread to my abdomen and two places on my spine and is not curable. It's been a huge blow and very difficult to come to terms with for myself and my partner especially as things seemed to go so well with my first op and follow up scans.

I have been told by my oncology team that in hopes of stopping or at least slowing the progression of the disease I will need to have chemo (I only had radiotherapy last time) and will be given Doxorubicin (yes I know it's nickname) which I have been warned has some pretty serious side effects.

I would love to talk to anyone who is either in the same boat or has had Doxorubicin for a different cancer and can let me know what sort of thing to expect (I know everyone is different) or anything that helped along the journey.

Thank you for taking the time to read this - any sort of input would be welcome:)

  • Hello JJ

I'm sorry to hear that you've recently been told that the liposarcoma that you had treatment for in 2024 has returned and that this time it's not curable. I'm sure that must have been difficult news to hear.

There are a number of chemotherapy drugs used to treat soft tissue sarcoma, and we have some specific information about Doxorubicin on our website. I've had a look across the forum and can't see that we have anyone who has posted recently about this diagnosis or treatment, but there are some older posts that you might like to read through. You can find those by using the forum search function at the top of the page to look for the word doxorubicin. Hopefully, other community members who have experience with this treatment will post to share their stories and advice with you soon. You might also like to have a look at the Sarcoma UK website, where you can hopefully connect with others who are living with this diagnosis.

If you would like to talk things through with one of our nurses, you're welcome to give them a call. I know they will be happy to listen and offer any advice, information and support they can. They're available Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

I hope that things go smoothly for you JJ. Keep in touch and let us know how you are. We're here for you.

    Best wishes,
    Jenn
