Sarcoma / Doxorubicin - has anyone had this cancer or this chemo? Would love to talk to someone in the same position

Hi

I'm JJ and I'm 35 and had a previous diagnosis of liposarcoma in my leg the end of 2024. I have recently received news that my cancer has spread to my abdomen and two places on my spine and is not curable. It's been a huge blow and very difficult to come to terms with for myself and my partner especially as things seemed to go so well with my first op and follow up scans.

I have been told by my oncology team that in hopes of stopping or at least slowing the progression of the disease I will need to have chemo (I only had radiotherapy last time) and will be given Doxorubicin (yes I know it's nickname) which I have been warned has some pretty serious side effects.

I would love to talk to anyone who is either in the same boat or has had Doxorubicin for a different cancer and can let me know what sort of thing to expect (I know everyone is different) or anything that helped along the journey.

Thank you for taking the time to read this - any sort of input would be welcome:)

  • Hi, I have liposarcoma that has spread and is now incurable but hopefully treatable. I am currently on round 5 out of 6 of chemo (doxorubicin and ifosfamide). I have been lucky, minimal side effects and tumours have shrunk and spinal one has disappeared. The others I have met during treatment are also tolerating it well, so whilst there are lots of possible side effects they do give you lots of pills and tactics to minimise them. I wish you all the best x

  • Thank you so much for your response. It's really helpful to hear your perspective and I'm so glad your treatment is working! I hope everything continues to go well for you ️
