Starting radiotherapy for DCIS next week - Just saying hi

Hi there. 55 years old, mum to my 2 gorjus kids and have a very loving husband! prone to breast cysts. Found a decent sized lump beginning of Jan fast forward…..since had a lumpectomy confirming stage 0 high grade DCIS start my rounds of radiotherapy next Thursday and I’m a wreck! Everyone telling me this is the easy part it’s like getting an X-ray …I get that but mentally I’m struggling big time! Everything has happened so fast and soooo much information I’ve crashed and burned twice already

  • Hi FlamingoDaftie71,

    Welcome to Cancer Chat.

This is a lot to process so I can understand that you're struggling.

You mention the information - this will be a lot to take in and to know what to expect. It may be helpful to keep writing things down - both the information itself but also your thoughts, as a way of managing how you're feeling and keeping track of everything.

Do of course keep in touch with your doctor if you have any questions or concerns about anything.

We also have nurses available if ever you'd like to talk things through with one of them. You can reach them on freephone 0808 800 4040 - Monday-Friday, 9-5.

Hopefully you'll also get more replies to your post here soon, particularly if others with similar experience see it.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben

  • Thanku x this is my second non invasive ca (thyroid 2010) now I’m thinking is the third gonna be a bad one, how many non invasive ca’s can a person have or get before it ends up being an invasive, or is cancer what will kill me, my head is a mess and the mental side of it is debilitating, I’m in arguments in my trying to stop thinking like this….im ok for a bit then they start again!
