Mum might have cancer again

Hi. We’ve just been informed that it looks like my mum has kidney cancer and possibly Lung cancer. She is 73 and has had lung cancer before. We don’t have a plan yet but I guess that depends on whether the cancers are connected or individual. She has been referred to an oncologist so we’re just waiting for the appointment. If any one has been through anything similar or has any advice I would appreciate it. Feeling very anxious.

  • Hello Faye01

I'm sorry to hear that your Mum is facing the possibility of being diagnosed with cancer for a second time, and that this time around, there is some query whether she has one or two different cancers. It's completely understandable that you're feeling anxious, and I'm sure you have a lot of unanswered questions at the moment.

Hopefully, your Mum won't have to wait too long to see the oncologist, and they will be able to give you some answers and reassurance about the next steps in her care. It might be helpful ahead of her appointment to write down any questions that you or your Mum might want to ask the oncologist, as it's easy to forget things in the moment.

If it would help to talk things through with one of our nurses, then you're most welcome to give them a call. I know they will be happy to listen and offer any advice, information and support they can. They're available Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

Do keep in touch and let us know how she gets on Faye01. We're here for you.

Sending you both my best wishes,
