Goblet cell adenocarcinoma in my appendix - further surgery recommended as a preventative measure. Does anyone have any experience with this?

Hi all,

I'm a 40 year old mum of a five year old.

I've recently been told i have a rare aggressive cancer, luckily it was in my appendix which was removed last December. The hospital have recommended surgery to remove my ovaries and omentum and HIPEC as a preventive measure. Anyone got any knowledge in this area, tips for dealing with the unknown etc.

I'm feeling incredibly lucky that they found it, i have clear margins but obviously scared for the future, menopause, recovery etc.

  • Hello Gobletgirl08

I'm sorry to hear that following surgery in December you were told that a rare type of cancer - goblet cell adenocarcinoma - was found in your appendix. I'm sure that it must have been difficult to hear this news and it's understandable that you're feeling anxious now that the specialists have recommended further treatment to try and safeguard your health for the future.

It can be difficult to connect with others who have exact experiences when you're diagnosed with a rare cancer but we do have some members who have shared their experiences with HIPEC here in the forum. You can use the forum search function at the top of the page to look for HIPEC and read through some of those posts at your leisure.

There is some useful information about goblet cell adenocarcinoma of the appendix that has been produced by The Christie NHS Foundation Trust. If you'd like to talk things through with one of our team of nurses, you're most welcome to give them a call. I know they will be happy to listen and offer any advice, information and support they can. They're available Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040 (excluding bank holidays).

Hopefully by now you have been allocated a clinical nurse specialist. Do lean on them for advice and support as well. They may also be able to help put you in touch with others who have been through this diagnosis and treatment.

I hope that things progress smoothly for you Gobletgirl08. Keep in touch and let us know how you get on - we're here for you.

    Best wishes,
