Living with Breast Cancer & brother diagnosed last year with Stage 4 oesophageal cancer, 3 tumours. It's very hard

Hello all

Well it’s been a long while since I last used this site ! My story

December 2016 grade 2 breast cancer ! Jan 2017 reconstruction and cancer removed, new procedure that meant no skin taken, fast forward to now, have learnt that my implant is failing !  I have the most amazing brother too who has heart disease and last July was diagnosed with oesophagus cancer after chemo, in hospital for 4 months is now back in for 2 months as it’s returned in same area plus in stomach and lungs, 48 hour chemo every 2 weeks until May !

My great dad also passed 10 years ago to cancer !

Guess I joined back as it would appear only those that have had C or family member, grade 4 as my brother Is have an idea how hard it is emotionally

  • Hello ella123,

It's nice to welcome you back on our site though I am sad to read the reasons that bring you back here. Thank you for sharing the full details of your story. You have certainly been through a lot since being diagnosed with breast cancer and how frustrating it must have been to find out that your implant is failing. Have they told you more about how to rectify this?

Your poor brother facing both heart disease and oesophageal cancer and having to spend so much time in hospital. I hope that despite the intensity of treatment he is receiving that the chemotherapy will be effective and help control things. You must be incredibly worried for him.

Cancer has certainly affected you and your family a lot and I am so sorry too for the loss of your dad 10 years ago to cancer.

You are right when you say that members of our community will understand how hard it can be emotionally when cancer suddenly impacts our lives and irremediably changes everything. Sometimes it's easier to talk to people on here who you may never have met but who understand what you are going through perhaps more thoroughly than any friend or person close to you because they are going through something similar themselves.

If you also feel the need to talk things through with our cancer nurses, whether it is about the issues you are having with your implant, your brother's cancer or anything else really, don't hesitate to give them a call on this free number 0808 800 4040 - their helpline is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm.

    Best wishes,
