Oesophagus cancer - husband has just been diagnosed. He's having a scan today to see if it's spread. We're in turmoil.

Hello My husband has just been diagnosed with oesophagus cancer. He is due for a scan today. He is also having bad pain in his stomach. It’s all been within a two week period. They said they will be looking to see if it’s spread. As a family we are all in turmoil and trying to wait for the results.

  • A very warm welcome to the forum GB1 although I'm sorry to hear about your husband's oesophageal cancer diagnosis.

I can't begin to imagine how difficult this must be for you and your family, especially with everything happening so quickly, but I'm glad you've reached out to us GB1 as so many of our members will understand what you're going through and hopefully some of them will be along soon to offer their support and advice.

I do hope everything went o.k with your husband's scan the other day but if you, your husband, or anyone else in your family would find it helpful to talk to one of our cancer nurses about what is going on you can give them a call on 0808 800 4040. Their phone lines are open Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m and they will do all they can to support you and answer any other questions you may have at this time.

Waiting for news is always tough, but we are here for you GB1 and will be by your side every step of the way.

    Kind regards,

  • Hi,

I’m so sorry to read your news.
Waiting for results is always horrendous.
The only tips I can give are to make sure your husband has someone with him, write down all the questions you have before the next consultation, go through them in order, tick them off and write down the answers.
Research shows that when we’re stressed we fail to remember about 40% of what we are told and we forget to ask questions as our minds go blank.

Good luck and please let us know how you get on.
