Sledgehammer 1, me nil... diagnosed with advanced S4 non small cell lung carcinoma. Starting treatment soon but I'm not unrealistic about where this is going

Hi. Just wondering if I'm going to find forums helpful or not. So here goes a trial...

Still reeling.... From a tad of twingy back in November (from lifting something heavy in the garden), this fit (ish) 61 year-old lady, fell & small mountain walker, skier, badminton player, weight lifter, etc, is currently chair bound in severe pain (hopefully being helped soon) and diagnosed, after a random painful shoulder x-ray, with S4 non-small-cell lung carcinoma with bone spread (inc spinal & collar bone fracture), something in brain, lymph and... Well, let's play hunt where next.

Not yet fully in the system, and have pushed a lot myself to get everything done asap - to be fair most clinical staff have been very quick, and mostly lovely ladies involved in my diagnostics and early palliative care - but it seems very shortly it's onwards with radiotherapy and systemic chemo. No prognosis given yet but I'm not unrealistic about where this is going.

Affairs just about in order, wills rewritten, quick wedding arranged... Practicalities to help Hubby; no kids or other family to speak if.

Blast and ***!!!!!!!

Thoughts to everyone else in similar boats.

  • Hi BadCub,

A warm welcome to our forum and I hope that you will get to talk to others here who are in a similar boat. I am so sorry to hear you are currently chair bound and in severe pain and that you were diagnosed with advanced non small cell lung carcinoma. Despite everything you've been through recently, you seem to have quite an amazing personality and determination and well done for pushing to get things done quickly. I am glad most of the clinical staff were quick to act and that you've dealt with lovely ladies. It's not easy too to have to think about all these practicalities but I guess it's something you want to do to have peace of mind knowing everything is in order.

I just wanted to wish you the best of luck with your treatment and I am keeping everything crossed for you that it will be effective. There are other members of our forum who mentioned recently being diagnosed with advanced non small cell lung cancer, for example  who posted this thread very recently about their sister being diagnosed with advanced non small cell lung cancer or  who posted a thread about being diagnosed with stage 3 non small cell lung cancer and who was looking to chat to other people in a similar situation. Feel free to respond to any of these threads if you wish to do so and I hope that you will connect with others on here who have been in a similar place.

If you have any question at any point about your treatment for example or anything else that is playing on your mind, feel free to get in touch with our cancer nurses on this free number 0808 800 4040 - their helpline is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm.

    Best wishes,
