  • Welcome to our community, Babychamgirl.

I’m sorry to hear how worried you are feeling while waiting for your first breast clinic appointment.

Waiting for tests or appointments can be very difficult and many people find that the uncertainty during this time can make worries grow. If you feel that your symptoms have changed or the pain is becoming more noticeable, it might be a good idea to get back in touch with your GP surgery to let them know, as they may be able to advise you or check whether your appointment can be reviewed.

Hopefully other members of the forum who have experienced long waits for appointments will come along soon to share their thoughts and experiences with you.

If you feel it would help to talk things through with someone, you are also welcome to speak with one of our nurses on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm.

I hope you won’t have to wait much longer for your appointment and that you get some clarity very soon.

    All the best,

  • Hi Babychamgirl,

A very warm welcome to our forum.

If a doctor suspects cancer, people are usually referred under the 'urgent' 2 week wait for an appointment. The fact that you have had to wait so long makes me suspect that you have just been referred for a routine appointment. Am I right in thinking that you now have an appointment? It is unusual for pain to accompany breast cancer. Many people are unaware of any changes before they are diagnosed. The time that you have waited shouldn't make much difference to the outcome. Can I ask what your age and symptoms are? Many lumps appear for other reasons and only 20% of those who attend the breast clinic will receive a cancer diagnosis.  Many lumps turn out to be benign Cysts, Fibroadenoma, etc.

As our moderator, Renata has said, many consider the wait for diagnosis to be the hardest part of their cancer journey. I do hope that your appointment goes well and that you turn out to be one of the lucky ones! Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
