Effects of taking Tamoxifen for 10 years after breast cancer

I took Tamoxifen for 10 years after having breast cancer.  Came off it in 2022.  I had awful after effects which were echoed by a lot of people on this forum.  Most of the symptoms cleared or partially cleared gradually, but it left me feeling 10 years older than before.  Now it seems to be happening all over again and instead of feeling 74 I'm currently feeling more like 94.  Extreme fatigue, Very low mood, don't want to go out, irritable and angry a lot of the time, sudden severe pain which comes and goes in different places, brain fog, mind racing, bloating.  It all happened at once just as before, including my eyelids suddenly drooping.  Has this happpened to anyone else?

  • I'm sorry to hear you feel you may be experiencing the same symptoms and side effects you had when you first came off Tamoxifen EAC71. This must be very frustrating.

If you find it's getting worse or becoming too difficult to manage it may be worth getting in touch with your GP to see if they can offer any guidance or advice.

You can also have a chat about this with one of our cancer nurses, they're available on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m. They're very easy to talk to and will do all they can to help.

So many of our members know how challenging it can be to live with the long term side effects of Tamoxifen, so you are not alone EAC71, and hopefully some of them will be along soon to share their experiences and advice.

In the meantime, we're sending you all our support and really hope things turn a corner for you again soon.

    Kind regards,

    Steph, Cancer Chat Moderator

  • I have spoken to my GP and she has offered me anti-depressants which I refused for the moment as I don't think that is the answer.
