Tongue cancer - had surgery 6 weeks ago and will be starting radiotherapy and chemo soon. I'm still in shock

Hi I had surgery 6 weeks ago now 80% of my tongue was removed and tissue from my leg used to make a flap... Have entereal tube in my stomach for feed as can only swallow small amounts of fluid for now..Voice completely changed and hard to talk something that has hit hard . Radiotherapy and chemo starting in a weeks time... I'm still in shock as my surgeon said if he hadn't have operated when he did he wouldn't have been able to as tumour was aggressive.... All so scarey

  • Hi MaryJane58,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. It sounds like you've been through a lot recently - it must be a lot to deal with mentally and physically.

I hope that things go OK with the start of the other treatment, and hopefully things will get easier soon in terms of the effects from the surgery.

We're always here for support on the forum whenever you may need it and I hope that it can be useful for you. My reply will give your post a little boost so a few more people should see it, and hopefully you'll get more replies.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben
