Hello there - diagnosed with anal cancer

After 3 months of various examinations, biopsys and the removal of a tumour at the anal verge, its been confirmed i have anal cancer, after a biopsy of the total tumour they found a 11mm malignant section which 9 previous biopsies missed.

Anyway im now on the path to recovery.

The doctor is pretty confident it's not penetrated through the muscle wall please god. But to confirm this im having another CT and MRI scan.

After that it's 5 weeks of chemo radiation and down the line APR surgery.

Anybody there that's been through the same treatment plan?

  • Hello Patcolfram and welcome to Cancer Chat.

I'm really sorry to hear the malignant part of your tumour was missed on 9 previous occasions but I'm glad it's finally been found and that your doctor is confident the cancer hasn't spread.

I know this period of waiting for your next set of scans to get this confirmed will be an anxious one, but we are here for you Patcolmfran and hopefully some of our members will be along soon to offer their support and advice.

Speaking of other members, another new member called Abessey recently revealed they have anal cancer so if you'd like to reach out to them and find out more, you can take a look at their discussion called Early days with anal cancer.

And if you have any further questions or concerns about your anal cancer diagnosis or upcoming treatment plan, you're very welcome to give one of our cancer nurses a call on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m. They're very insightful and will do all that they can to help.

We're thinking of you Patcolmfran and wishing you all the best with your CT and MRI scans.

    Kind regards,
