My Wife diagnosed with GBM 4 - 3 weeks before Christmas

Hello I am Rik, my wife is D

Took Mrs to A&E with headache/earache after speaking to 111, she had sent some text messages out over a few days which didn't make sense and also notes in work with letters missing or spelt wrong,

we thought we would be kicked out with anti biotics for an earache, how wrong we were after a CT scan we were told she had had a stroke and needed a MRI scan which happened 4-5 hours later which

showed a sizeable brain tumour, which has devastated us.

The tumour is a GBM 4 which they have said is non curable, D has just finished the first week of Radiotherapy and Chemo tablets, She is 100% fit at the moment accept for missing peripheral vision on one side.

I would like to know in general how long it could be before we see any further side affects affecting movement or speech.

Thanks

  • Hi RikG,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I hope you are getting on as OK as can be, I'm sure this has been a lot to process.

It's good to hear your wife is feeling OK at the moment.

In terms of your question, it would be best to discuss this with your wife's doctor/specialist when you can, as they will be best placed to advise specifically to her.

We have nurses available too if you'd like to talk things through, but please note they can only provide general information. If you'd like to speak to them you can reach them on freephone 0808 800 4040 - Monday-Friday, 9-5.

And in the meantime hopefully you'll get more replies to your post here soon.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben
