Newbie here - caring for my husband who has lung cancer

Hi everyone,

I’m a newbie here and feel it’s time to join a community like this as I have been caring for my husband who was diagnosed with stage 3 lung cancer in July 2025.

It all came from a pain in his shoulder and a visit to our local GP, who sent him for an X-ray where it was discovered he had a partial collapse of the top of his right lung.

Next came CT scans PET scans etc and we were told it was cancer and stage 3..

I was at a total loss as to what to say.

We've been together 35 years this year, married for 14.

I just threw myself into appointments and getting him to his treatments and ran on pure adrenaline for 3 months straight!

It’s only now that his treatment has finished 6 and a half weeks of radiotherapy Mon-Fri. Ended 3rd December.

That I’ve finally felt lost and unable to fix this for him!

I have always been the organiser and fixer but this time all I could do was be there and be strong for him!

I have and amazing best friend and family support on his side.
After much cajoling form my bestie I finally went to see my GP

I’ve recently seen my doctor who was amazing and have got support from him.

I just thought it would be a good idea to connect with other people that are feeling or going through the same.

sorry for the epic 1st post but it’s all been kept under wraps for so long I feel the time is right to talk about it.

Thanks for taking the time to read this

lots of love and hugs

  • Hello Donsey68 and welcome to Cancer Chat.

It sounds like you and your husband have been through quite a lot since he has diagnosed with lung cancer last year but I'm glad his treatment has gone well and you have managed to get some support from your GP as it's so important for you to take care of yourself when supporting your husband on this journey.

Hopefully some of our members will offer their support and advice to you soon but if at any point it would help to have a chat with one of our cancer nurses, you can give them a call on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m. They're very easy to talk to and they will do all they can to provide you with information, support, and anything else you may need at this time.

The forum is here to provide you with a safe space to share your thoughts and feelings so do keep posting if you find it helps Donsey68, and remember that we'll always be here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Steph, Cancer Chat Moderator
