Mammogram recall next Friday after suspicious looking shadow was found. I'm so frightened and beside myself with worry.

I had a mammogram recall for next Friday 13th February. I am beside myself with worry, I can’t think about anything else and am so frightened.

My Mum had breast cancer when she was 42 so I can only think it is one thing. I’m 57 and this is my fourth mammogram and they have seen a shadow that looks different to previous ones.

i don’t know how I am going to get through the next 5 days, I’m not brave and I can’t stop crying.

  • Sadly the results weren’t positive last week. The radiologist found 2 x 7mm lumps next to each other, she took 4 biopsies and when I asked if it could be anything other than cancer she said no.

I’m beside myself with fear and getting the call to go in for the results. My family are being wonderful with me but it’s still an incredibly lonely place to be.

I don’t know how I am going to cope.

  • Hello Mini2410

I'm sorry to hear that the news at your appointment last week wasn't as positive as you'd hoped it might be. It's understandable that this is all feeling overwhelming at the moment.

Did the breast team give you an idea about when you might have an appointment to discuss your results and the recommended next steps? Hopefully, it won't be too long before you're able to get some reassurance from the specialists.

We know that for many peopl,e this period of waiting and uncertainty can be really difficult. If you'd like to talk things through with one of our nurses, you're welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm. I know they will be happy to listen and offer any advice, information and support they can.

Keep in touch and let us know how you get on Mini2410, we're here for you.

    Best wishes,
