Hey, I'm new to this - was diagnosed with uterine cancer 5 weeks ago. Had a total hysterectomy and waiting for pathology results. I'm so scared it's spread

Found out 5 weeks ago I had uterine cancer, was quite a shock as last discussion with gynaecology they were deciding if to sign me off, give me an open appointment or annual hysteroscopy and biopsy.

Asked if I'd get any scans like CAT, MIR or PET, was told no. I had a total hysterectomy last week. And now waiting up to 6 weeks for pathology. Its really messing with my head, think I'm still numb, I'm just scared its spread, when I raised my concerns with the surgeon he just said 'we start with stage 1, I feel very brushed off.

Is this normal? I didn't have any pain, bloating, only 2 days of light spotting 18 months ago, so none of this feels real.

  • A very warm welcome to the Cancer Chat forum MrsBe, although I'm sorry to hear you've been diagnosed with uterine cancer.

Receiving a cancer diagnosis when you haven't experienced many symptoms must be very tough, but I hope this information we have on our website that explores how cancer can make you feel will show you that the range of emotions you are experiencing at the moment are completely normal.

I know this doesn't make things any easier, especially when you feel like you've been brushed off by your medical team, but I hope knowing that you can speak to one of our cancer nurses about what you're going through will reassure you that there is always someone who is happy to address your concerns and support you on this journey. Our nurses are available on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m, so do give them a call if you want to talk things through.

Hopefully some of our members will stop by soon to share their experiences and advice but in the meantime you may want to have a look at this discussion about suspected uterine cancer that was started by a member called Beebee71. You can also look for more discussions about your diagnosis by typing in keywords such as 'uterine cancer', 'womb cancer' or 'endometrial cancer' in to the search forum bar at the top of our webpage.

Our thoughts are with you MrsBe, and we'll have our fingers crossed your pathology results bring good news when they come through.

    Kind regards,

    Steph, Cancer Chat Moderator
