Ovarian Cancer - will be having a full hysterectomy next month. Feeling very anxious, fearing the unknown

Recently been diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer, most likely stage one?  Things are moving very quickly though and looking to have a full hysterectomy mid February.  I was feeling fine up until the reality kicked in and what’s about to happen.   Feeling very anxious at this moment.  Fearing the unknown, I suppose.

  • Hi LCHLainey and a warm welcome to our forum,

I am so sorry to hear you have been diagnosed with ovarian cancer but it's good that things are moving very fast and that it is most likely to be stage 1. I can imagine this is a very stressful time for you and it is normal to be anxious - as you say it is most likely linked to the fear of the unknown. It won't be long now until you have your hysterectomy and it is normal to feel a bit nervous about the procedure.

There is information on our website on the radical hysterectomy which I hope you will find useful and if you wanted to talk things through with our cancer nurses ahead of your operation, they will be happy to answer any questions you might have. You can get in touch with them on this free number 0808 800 4040 - their helpline is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm.

I hope that you will hear from other members of our community who have had an ovarian cancer diagnosis and who have also had the radical hysterectomy and that they will be along shortly to share their experience with you.

Wishing you the best of luck for the surgery. I hope that it will all go well and that you make a full and quick recovery.

    Best wishes,
