New here, results day tomorrow and I'm really nervous. Do I have to agree to the treatment that's proposed or can I request a certain treatment?

Hi all

I'm very new here, just started here looking at a few posts here and there.

I was diagnosed with ductile  breast cancer in 2012, had lumpectomy, radiotherapy, and tamoxifen.

Late October, went to my gp with a lump I found! Referred under 2wr

Diagnosed with lobular breast cancer.

January 2nd 2026 had diep flap mastectomy, it’s my results day tomorrow and I’m really nervous.

I know it’s really important to ask as many questions as possible, I have a few written down but my mind is blank probably due to nerves!

Do I have to agree to what ever treatment plan is proposed for me? Or am I allowed to express a wish for certain treatment?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

  • Hi Timeforachat,

A very warm welcome to the forum.

I am so sorry to hear that you have had a second cancer and know how worrying this can be. Your surgeon will have discussed your case with the MDT (multidisciplinary team) at one of the regular team meetings. The people involved in these meetings are the various professionals who are likely to be involved in your ongoing care and they will most likely have come up with what they consider to be the best treatment for you. Your consultant will discuss this with you. It is up to you whether or not you follow the advice given. If you have a preference for a particular treatment, the consultant will be able to tell you whether or not this is likely to be as effective as the treatment the MDT has suggested. The ultimate decision is yours.

I am glad to hear that you have some questions written down for tomorrow - you will probably also have others once you know the results. Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
