Waiting for cervical biopsy and pelvic ultrasound results. I'm so anxious, it's all I can think about.

I’m currently waiting for my cervical biopsy and pelvic ultrasound results. 

Last year, I was referred to the gynaecology department at my hospital on the two week suspected cancer fast track service, because I was bleeding after sex. Upon examination, I found out that I had cervical erosion, this was cauterised, and I was told to contact the hospital if I had any more issues. 

Fast forward a few months, the bleeding has returned, as well as pelvic pain, lower back pain and pain during sex. I contacted the hospital and got an appointment. More erosion was found and cauterised. The doctor also performed a cervical biopsy and I had a pelvic and internal ultrasound. I’m now waiting for my results. Some people have told me that ‘no news is good news’ but I’m so anxious. It’s all I can think about.

    Hi, 

    Thank you again for your kind reply. I was hoping that my ultrasound showed something (I don’t wish any kind of illness on myself) but at least if something came up on that, I would know the cause. I’m now thinking that I’m not going to get very positive biopsy results. 

    The wait has been awful.

    Hi Ava,

    I would probably feel the same as you, but there may well be other causes that are not cancer. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for more favourable results than you expect. This is always an anxious wait.

    Hello, 

    Thank you again for your kind reply. I’m still waiting for my biopsy results, however I’ve had a letter today which states I have a review appointment in August. The letter didn’t really detail much but I googled it and it says that it’s to check that the cervix has healed, the issue hasn’t returned and to discuss and biopsy results.

    Hi Ava,

    This sounds hopeful. It would suggest that your biopsy is also clear. However if it were me, I would still want to know for certain before August. This seems an awful long time to wait for your biopsy results. It would be worth phoning your specialist nurse to see if she can get the results for you before then.

    Hello, I had my biopsy results today. I have low-grade pre-cancerous cells. I am going to have them monitored. I have a third colposcopy in August as well as a smear test. Feeling really good (I think anyway!). Thank you for all of your support xx

    Hi Ava,

    This is great news. I am so glad to hear that your biopsy results were so much better than you expected. I expect that you're feeling extremely relieved  and I hope that things settle down for you now. Do please keep in touch and let us know how your colposcopy and smear test go in August.
