BCC & Squamous Cancer

Hi today once again my skin cancer has returned..this has been ongoing for the last 10 years + on and off

I have had lots of surgery and been i guess in remission

I dont know how I feel except I feel that because I have had this previously my family reactions were oh you'll be ok you've gone through this before...this time its not just BCC its squamous and I am upset .

  • Hi

Join the club of the many of us with skin cancer. Like you I have a long history of BCC and SCC. The procedure is the same, surgery to remove the lesion. You should not be overly worried whilst SCC can spread it mostly does not. As you likely have a lot of sun damage it is really important to protect your skin.

  • Mine is confined to the same area..everytime ...and yes ive done the protection over protected ! I just feel like being diagnosed with skin cancer is like oh you're ok its " only""skin cancer??  Am I wrong ?

  • No you are not wrong. Peoples perception of someone being diagnosed with skin cancer is like it is just a minor inconvenience. Ive even had GPs tell me that it is not really a cancer. Ive had 30 years being treated for BCC and SCC with some very disfiguring scars on my face and body. While it very unlikely to happen to most people Im now on palliative care for metastatic SCC in spine lung shoulder and previously salivary glands and throat. So it can be a serious diagnosis. I hope you upcoming treatment is successful and you can get on with your life.
