SCC on lip, Transplant patient

Hi There.

I have recently been diagnosed with lip cancer. I have a SCC in the middle of my lip. I am under the maxillofacial unit and booked to have it removed on New Years Eve. I am petrified. I am so worried about how different my face is going to look and how I wont look like me anymore. I know having the cancer removed is the best thing to happen, but I am feeling so many emotions.

Has anyone else had a SCC on their lip and had to have this done?

  • Hello Vicky

I have not had a SCC removed from my lip but have had them removed from back chest face scalp. It is essential they are removed as SCC can spread. A sister has though, the plastic surgeon did an incredible job. She has a very thin, barely noticable scar on her bottom lip which runs a few mm towards her chin. However she has a tightness where her lip was brought together and stitched. She keeps her lips well moisturised all the time to lessen the effect and uses SPF 50 sunscreen every day. Hope your procedure goes well.

  • Thank you for your reply. I’m worried as mine seems to be getting bigger all the time. It’s being removed on New Year’s Eve. Hope you are well from yours being removed. Did your sister take long to recover from the surgery?
