Hello all - my prostate and pancreatic cancer journey so far

My cancer journey began 18 months ago when I was diagnosed with prostate cancer, it was contained within the prostate so I was just under observation. After my second biopsy I contracted Jaundace and while they were sorting that they realised I had Pancreatic cancer too.Two weeks ago I started hormone treatment for the prostate and though I had the Whipple op in August, today I began chemo for the pancreatic cancer to minimise the chances of it’s return. The NHS have been amazing , I know they get a lot of stick for waiting lists etc but when it’s serious stuff they really pull the stops out. Just brilliant.

  • Hello James-t-cake and welcome to the Cancer Chat community.

I'm sorry to hear that after being diagnosed with prostate cancer, you were also diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. This must have been a lot to take in but I'm glad everything is going o.k and that the NHS are really looking after you.

You can find out more about hormone therapy for prostate cancer and chemotherapy for pancreatic cancer on our website, but if you'd like to discuss any of this further with one of our cancer nurses, you can give them a call on 0808 800 4040. Their helpline is usually open Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m, but do keep in mind that due to the Christmas holidays they will be unavailable between 24th - 26th December and New Year's Day.

Hopefully some of our members who have experience with prostate and/or pancreatic cancer will stop by soon to share their experiences and advice but in the meantime, we're sending you all our support and wishing you all the best with your treatment. We hope it'll be a success and that you don't experience too many side effects.

    Kind regards,

    Steph, Cancer Chat Moderator
